I am by far not a full time SEO specialist but over the past few years I have discovered that results are based on change, and change makes your website appear fresh every time it is re-indexed. At this time my company Blue Light Labs has decided to take on JOOMLA as its backend striped down SEO system as far as we have searched for a great open source CMS system JOOMLA has appeared to be the most robust and has a excellent community attached to it. Using modules mambots and xml config files we have started to build a plug-in specifically to SEO a CMS site. Below are a few notes we had came up with before starting the project.
I think if we break it down into profiles and individual page inserts it shouldnt be hard to put together - Of course this might turn out to be more work and time in the short run but allow the SEO specialist to dig work their magic.
SEO Admin Tool - The more we can automate the web site, the sweeter this
thing could be!
1. Since quite a few sites including Bluelightlabs.com have a PR 4-3 index files in particular directories we need to find a way to mimic or replace them in Joomla, so control over filename and directory will save the old sites PR links.
For example urls like http://www.bluelightlabs.com/little_content3.html or http://www.bluelightlabs.com/little_content2.html are awful doorway pages but PR is based on index and file placement not just the domain alone - we could organize link
3. Each time any page is refreshed, it would be nice to run through the following criteria: these criteria could be setup as profiles that are assigned to various dynamic or static reas.
4. Each time a static page or link page is added the sitemap.xml could be updated as well as its various properties
I believe adding 4 small 2px by 200 pix almost background images to the header that are linkable as well as alt tag-able would help a great deal.
Allowing hidden scripts in the body tag is also helpful - for example providing a client with great Google Analytics information.
Every time a page or content is added we could also have a script run the Google custom search and re-index the site as everyone knows GOOGLE loves GOOGLE
All local links should have the full url http://www.bluelightlabs.com/ -
www and trailing slash.
In the header adding a w link directly to http://en.wikipedia.org
next to the first target phrase in the header - It worked awesome with
http://www.drapeaugroup.com adding the small w link to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_Technology_Infrastructure_Library
this link references the primary word in the phrase that is targeted.
The following meta would be a great template to build in dynamically:
- phisical position of business could be a factor when optimizing local
sites
- place name
- primary page topic
- date modified tag
- make ajustable for index and default to 14 for all other
- language
- remove Microsoft junk
- this is what the DMOZ looks at
Being able to control the header and footer as well as image ALT tags might be a function particular to the page and not the profile assigned to it.Building an auto-linking profile that can assign internal links to phrases actually found in the content would be a benefit.
Other things on the wish list
In the content I have found that randomly scattering and underline tags
around the major target phrase for the site seems to help tremendously.
Hope this helps anyone
